Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Structural and Earthquake Engineering (JSEE) undergo a rigorous single-anonymized peer-review process designed to ensure the publication of high-quality, original, and scientifically sound research. The identities of reviewers remain confidential throughout the review process, while the identities of authors are disclosed to reviewers.

Upon submission, each manuscript is first evaluated by the Editorial Office to determine its suitability with respect to the journal's aims and scope, scientific quality, originality, ethical compliance, and adherence to the journal's submission requirements. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be rejected without external peer review.

Manuscripts that successfully pass the initial editorial screening are assigned to an Associate Editor or Handling Editor and are subsequently reviewed by at least two independent experts in the relevant field. Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on its originality, technical quality, methodological rigor, significance of the findings, clarity of presentation, validity of the conclusions, and contribution to structural and earthquake engineering.

Based on the reviewers' recommendations and the editor's independent assessment, one of the following editorial decisions may be made:

  • Accept without revision
  • Minor revision
  • Major revision
  • Reject

Authors invited to revise their manuscripts are expected to submit a detailed point-by-point response to the reviewers' comments together with the revised manuscript. Revised submissions may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation before a final editorial decision is reached.

JSEE is committed to providing a fair, objective, timely, and transparent review process while maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and scientific integrity. All submitted manuscripts must represent original work, must not have been published previously (except as a preprint where permitted by the journal), and must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere.
